Who we are
As our name indicates, Intaglio Et Al. is a gallery dedicated to works from the Intaglio family of printmaking. In addition to etchings, engravings, and aquatints, we embrace the Et Al. in our name with an offering of woodcuts, watercolors, and other works on paper. While our primary objective is to offer distinguished prints whose edition counterparts can be found in the world’s leading institutions, we also seek out and sell works by artists largely overlooked by history.
Continuing a Legacy
Austen, our founder, is a fourth-generation collector of works on paper. His Great-grandfather, who favored the works by Impressionists such as Renoir and Pissarro, chose to leave a small legacy through the funding of a series of galleries at the Akron Art Museum. His Grandfather, a Doctor, was, perhaps unsurprisingly, attracted to the anatomical accuracy of Dürer’s engravings, bequeathing an extensive collection of such works to his alma mater, Amherst. His father, an avid fisherman and traveler, collects works by Whistler and Samuel Chamberlain. In contrast, Austen’s tastes are wide-ranging, from 17th-century engraver Nicolaes de Bruyn to emerging artists fascinated by the variety of techniques as much as the subject matter.
